AreaMetrics.netWhat started as a handshake deal at a wedding has expanded into a growing enterprise. Energy Benchmarking is now required in many states and municipalities for existing buildings over a threshold square footage. The goal is to determine the energy use intensity - that is the total energy use over a calendar year divided by the gross floor area (GFA) of the buildings. AreaMetrics produces reports for the GFA element of energy benchmarking. We delineate the residential and commercial enclosed space and the surface and garage parking for existing buildings, using plots and plans - sometimes hand drawn. We calibrate these scanned drawings precisely to determine the most accurate possible estimate of these areas. By following ENERGY STAR guidelines, and measuring from the outside walls, which the guidelines allow, we are able to produce a defensibly maximal GFA number for this energy use intensity calculation, which will save the client money down the road as municipal and state requirements compell action.
